Rules and Guidelines for Perfect Esthetics: The Implant Sets the Tone
Abstract:
When placing implants in the esthetic zone, care should be taken before planning the treatment sequences. A thorough examination must be performed to both soft and hard tissue with special emphasis on potential changes that could take place following implant placement. These changes such as bone resorption and/or soft tissue retraction can jeopardize the esthetic outcome of the future prosthesis and represent a challenge for the practitioner. To prevent resorption phenomenon, several techniques have been advanced such as ridge preservation, guided bone regeneration and immediate post-extraction implantation.
Implant placement must follow the rules of 3D placement to respect the aesthetic criteria while allowing primary stability. Pre-implant study with the help of planning software and the guided implant placement will allow an ideal position as well as preliminary preparation of the temporary crown. Implant geometry plays an essential role in allowing optimal stability thus allowing immediate temporization that will guide bone and gingival healing while maintaining aesthetics during the healing period
During this presentation guidelines that should be followed to predict a successful final esthetic outcome will be explained. Optimal implant positioning, immediate temporization and site built-up by means of soft and hard tissue grafting procedures will be described along with long-term clinical results.
learning objectives:
– Analyze esthetic risk factors related to implant placement.
– Understand the importance of ideal implant positioning in the esthetic zone.
– Comprehend the atraumatic extraction technique to preserve alveolar bone.
– Understand different soft and hard tissue reconstruction techniques related to esthetic implant placement.
